Jacques Steinberg is a New York Times best-selling author and longtime, award-winning Times journalist who has more recently served as a senior leader, strategist, advisor, and board member for national nonprofit organizations, with a particular focus on strategic communications and higher education partnerships.
His latest book, co-authored with Eric J. Furda, the former Dean of Admissions of the University of Pennsylvania, is “The College Conversation: A Practical Companion for Parents to Guide Their Children Along the Path to Higher Education,” which was published by Viking, an imprint of Penguin Random House, in 2020. Jacques is also the author of “The Gatekeepers: Inside the Admissions Process of a Premier College,” a New York Times Book Review Notable Book selection first published by Viking in 2002. “The Gatekeepers” was reissued in 2012 with a new afterword and is now in its 28th printing.
From 2013 to 2020, Jacques served as Senior Vice President of Higher Education and Communications of Say Yes to Education, a nonprofit organization whose local chapters help revitalize communities by giving students access to college and other postsecondary opportunities as well as supports to ensure their success.
Before joining Say Yes, Jacques was a journalist at The Times for 25 year. His assignments included serving as the paper’s Senior Editor for Education Initiatives; National Education Correspondent; New York City Schools Correspondent, and National Media Correspondent, with responsibility for writing about the newspaper industry, as well as broadcast and cable news.
