Nationwide Tutoring for All Students is Goal of New Nonprofit Accelerate

A new nonprofit called Accelerate launched today, bringing together local, state, and federal education leaders, philanthropists, and researchers in a national effort to bring research-based, high-impact tutoring programs to every student in U.S. K–12 public schools — and to make tutoring a permanent part of the nation’s public education system.

A new multimillion-dollar effort will fund K-12 tutoring projects, experiment with new models, and bring more clarity to what works and what doesn’t—and create a tutoring network connecting dozens of districts and some states.

In his State of the Union address, President Joe Biden called on local educators to use their federal COVID relief aid for tutoring programs that can support students who have fallen behind academically. “I urge every parent to make sure your school does just that,” Biden said in the March 1 speech. “They have the money. We can all play a part: Sign up to be a tutor or a mentor.”
