Peter Kannam is a Managing Partner of America Achieves and oversees America Achieves’ work with cities and states, including managing the organization’s leadership fellowship programs and tool development, and leads our partnership and program work with Bloomberg Philanthropies. Previously, he served as Executive Officer of Government Relations and Public Policy and Executive Director of New Leaders for New Schools Maryland for four years where he launched programs in both Baltimore City in 2005 and Prince Georges County in 2007. From 2003 to early 2005, Peter served as the New England Regional Director for Catapult Learning, and oversaw all aspects of the regional operations. He also served as the Executive Director of Teach For America-Baltimore (TFA). Peter began his career as a teacher and taught 8th grade Social Studies through TFA at Lombard Middle School in Baltimore from 1993 until 1998. He is a graduate of Bates College with a BA in History and received a Masters in Administration from Johns Hopkins University. In the spring of 2013, Peter was appointed by the governor of Maryland and the mayor to the Baltimore City School Board. Peter is married to an educator and the proud father of three sons, who are 14, 11, and 9.
